That’s the message from this year’s Stay Smart Online Week. The annual week-long event kicks off today with a series of videos and information on how individuals and businesses can better protect themselves from cyber-attack. This year’s theme, cyber safety from the lounge room to the board room, looks at how personal use of the internet can impact the workplace and offers tips for employers and employees to identify and reduce the risk of online threat. It also outlines simple steps individuals can take to better protect themselves and their personal information online. This is as simple as not sharing banking passwords with other internet and mobile providers and limiting the amount of personal information that is available online. With the increased number of new digital only financial services providers (FinTechs), keeping your passwords and other banking information secure is now more important than ever. Stay Smart Online Week 2016 coincides this year with Cyber Security Awareness Month in the United States and is being run in alignment with New Zealand’s Connect Smart Week. A range of shared resources can be found at the Connect Smart website as well as at Stay Smart Online.
