For security reasons, neither Teachers Mutual Bank or UniBank would never ask you to click on a link to confirm or update your personal banking information. Emails such as this are “phishing” emails, a scam designed to steal valuable information such as card or account numbers, PIN or internet banking access codes. How do phishing emails work? A fake website is created to look like the bank’s genuine website. An email or SMS is then sent requesting information by clicking on a link. This link leads to the fake website and users who update their information via this link inadvertently send their personal information. What to do if you suspect you have received a “phishing” email? Do not open or click on any links in the email Do not provide personal information, including PIN or access codes Delete the email immediately What to do if you have already clicked on the link or attachment: Run a full system anti-virus scan on your computer or laptop Change your online banking access code immediately via www.unibank.com.au Report the incident to the Fraud Team at UniBank How to keep your information safe? To ensure the safety of your account, we recommend never clicking on any email links that ask you to update your banking or personal information. To safeguard your privacy and keep your banking information safe, only log into online banking via our website www.unibank.com.au.
